When the Stars Meet the Earth: The Story Behind My Night Sky Tree Painting

Some paintings start with a plan. This one started with a question: what if a tree could hold the whole night sky?

Till the Infinite Aurora is an original painting in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 80x100 cm. It shows a single tree rising from a glowing ground of pink and violet, its canopy scattered with tiny yellow and magenta leaves that read, from a distance, as stars.

A tree that is also a sky

I have always been drawn to the moment when something familiar turns into something else. A tree is a tree, until the light changes and its leaves become fireflies, and the branches start to look like a constellation.

That is what I wanted to paint: the point where the earth and the sky stop being separate. The upper part of the canvas is dense and alive, full of small brushstrokes in yellow-green, magenta and deep blue. Below, the canopy opens into an arch of quiet ultramarine, the calmest area of the painting, where the eye can rest before moving on.

Colour, texture and light

The palette is deliberately limited: ultramarine, violet, magenta and a sharp acid yellow-green, with teal in the trunk. The pink and violet ground echoes the pink dots in the foliage, so the colours speak to each other from top to bottom.

The trunk is scratched and layered, so it catches the light like bark under the moon. The painting changes through the day: in daylight the blues feel deep and calm, and in lamplight the yellow leaves begin to glow.

Watching it come to life

I filmed the painting as it developed. In the short video below you can see how the leaves appear, one stroke at a time, until the tree fills the canvas.

Where it belongs

This painting was made for walls that need a point of calm and wonder: above a sofa, in a bedroom, in an entryway, in a reading corner or a quiet office. Its vertical format and strong central tree give it presence in a room without overwhelming it.
